How I Drove Dedan Kimathi Foundation’s Mission for a Greener Kenya During Mazingira Day 2025
On this year’s Mazingira Day 2025, I had the great pleasure of leading the Dedan Kimathi Foundation (DKF) team during an inspiring environmental event held at Siwot Primary School in Kuresoi South. The day was not only a celebration of Kenya’s national commitment to environmental stewardship but also a reaffirmation of our shared responsibility to nurture a greener, more food-secure future.
The event was presided over by the Principal Secretary for the State Department for Environment and Climate Change, Eng. Festus K. Ng’eno, who also serves as the Patron of the Mau Forest Complex Integrated Conservation and Livelihoods Improvement Programme (MFC-ICLIP). His leadership and vision continue to drive meaningful action in restoring and protecting Kenya’s vital ecosystems, particularly the Mau Forest Complex.
A key highlight of the event was the focus on growing fruit trees in schools—a strategic move towards enhancing food security, improving nutrition, and fostering economic empowerment, in addition to promoting environmental conservation. This approach resonates deeply with DKF’s philosophy of integrating sustainability with community empowerment.
In a symbolic gesture marking the beginning of a 10-year partnership under the Mau Forest Complex Restoration Programme, I joined the Principal Secretary in planting a Hass avocado tree seedling. This act represented more than just tree planting—it was the planting of hope, commitment, and collaboration for a sustainable future.
At Dedan Kimathi Foundation, we believe that every seed planted today becomes a testament to tomorrow’s prosperity.
Together, we shall continue to nurture the environment while uplifting lives across Kenya.
